JL the Snyder Cut: Review

Justice League The Snyder Cut is directed by Zack Snyder (surprise) and is the alternate edition of the 2017 Justice League movie. This is the original vision Zack Snyder had for this film before Joss Whedon took over directing duties after Snyder had to exit the film due to family issues.

This movie is FOUR hours long and it feels like it’s ten. This opened my eyes to the importance of editing movies. It feels drawn out and unfinished at various points of the film. There are scenes that are five minutes long that could be trimmed down to one. The pacing feels off and the story is still convoluted.

The characters here are still very bland to me. There is definitely more character development for some characters here such as Cyborg and Flash, but it just adds to the already long run-time of the movie. I am all for character development, but trying to introduce and develop these new and super important characters to a movie like this just feels like it’s too much. We should already have established these characters in a movie about them joining forces to save the world.

There are cool sequences that happen throughout the movie, but not enough to warrant watching a four hour movie to watch a few good scenes. This movie sets up about five sequels that will never happen due to this not being cannon in the DC Extended Universe.

Overall, the Snyder Cut just feels like a long and slow movie with some bad CGI and lazy storytelling. There are definitely fun and cool scenes, but they get bogged down with an over reliance of slow-mo and they get drawn out. If you have four hours of free time and you love super hero movies, this might be something to throw on. There are worse things to watch for four hours, but much much better as well.
