The Invisible Man- Review

This movie was so good. It was 110 minutes of pure anxiety. There’s tension throughout the movie for different reasons and it never lets up. The camera work was fantastic in this. They really focused on negative space to make you wary of what isn’t there. Remember when you were a kid and you would turn the light off and run to your bed so a ghost wouldn’t get you? Thats the feeling that these scenes invoke.

Elizabeth Moss does a fantastic job in this, along with pretty much every other cast member. The score really seemed to elevate a lot of scenes for me. This was just an overall, very well put together film. It never drags on for too long, and it makes the most out of its short runtime. I can’t say enough about this movie, except to go out and see it! It’s absolutely worth your time.

Overall, a very tense, tight, and satisfying movie to watch. It will keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish.

Sonic the Hedgehog – Review

I went into this movie with super low expectations. After the whole having to rework the sonic design, I figured this movie would be a dud. Sonic definitely surprised me with just how much fun it was to watch. This movie isn’t perfect by any means, but it is far from a bad movie.

This movie is silly, goofy, obnoxious, and it never takes itself too seriously. It’s based off of a video game and it embraces that wackiness. Jim Carrey is so good in this. For me, he delivered the most laughs in the audience. The dialogue between characters is very good and not too cheesy. They nailed the characteristics of all the sonic characters, and the new characters are solid as well.

Overall, this isn’t some groundbreaking film, but it’s fun and exactly what it wants to be. Sonic is a great family film that I think audiences of all ages will enjoy. Also, there’s some absurd product placement. Makes me want a pasta bowl.

Parasite – Review

I can’t say much about this movie without discussing major plot points, so I’m going to keep this fairly short. If you do decide to watch this movie, go in with as little knowledge about it as possible.

Parasite was one of those movies that definitely lived up to the hype. I couldn’t take my eyes off the screen for even one second. It’s a 2:15 movie that feels so much shorter. It feels like a 90 minute movie, which is a good thing. If the movie wants you to laugh, you’ll laugh. If it wants you to be stressed, you’ll be ripping your hair out. This is masterclass storytelling. Every piece of dialogue, every scene, every action is important. Every last detail has a purpose.

Do yourself a favor and go out and see this while it is in theaters for this short time.

Birds of Prey – Review

This movie is so much fun to watch. It’s not a perfect movie by any means, but it’s exactly what it’s supposed to be. It’s a dumb and fun movie that you can sit back and enjoy for two hours. There are some pacing and dialogue issues, but the fight scenes, the humor, and the silliness all but make up for it.

Margo Robbie is great as Harley Quinn. She was one of the best parts of Suicide Squad and definitely improved on that performance here. Ewan McGregor was fantastic in here as well. He almost stole the show. You can just tell he is having a blast every time he’s onscreen.

I would definitely recommend this film for anyone who wants to go and have a good time. There is absolutely no way you will be bored watching this. Expect a lot of silliness, colors, and broken legs!

Knives Out

Knives out was one of my favorite movies in 2019. I absolutely had to do a review for this film. The entire cast is fantastic in this, and it’s so exciting to watch this great cast in something very unique. This is a very modern take on a “whodunnit” film, but this film does some things that make it much more interesting in my opinion. That’s as far as I will go without spoiling it.

Daniel Craig is so great in his role. You can tell he is just having fun with his character. It’s hard to tell if he’s really good at his job, or if he’s really bad at his job – it’s so fun to watch. Chris Evans playing an asshole is also fantastic. Besides the cast, this movie takes you on twists and turns and keeps you guessing until the end. Every time you think the mystery is solved, something else pulls you in. I would definitely say to watch this movie as soon as you can.

Score: 9.5/10 and one of my favorite movies of 2019

1917 – Review

To nobody’s surprise, this movie is absolutely incredible. Between the cinematography, the score, the sets, everything is fantastic. The shots are beautiful and the score perfectly compliments each scene. This is a two hour long movie and it never once feels like it.

The pacing is great. You are following the same character throughout the film while the background continues to change. The background would feel very dead or very alive depending on what was needed. The depictions of war in this movie feel so much different than other war movies. This was a suspense war movie instead of your average action war movie. The details that are in scenes are insane. You truly get a feel for just how horrible the conditions were back then and just how miserable it must have felt. This movie brings a sense of stress and tension throughout and never once lets up.

Overall, Mendes absolutely delivered on this one. I would absolutely say that this is a must watch.
